Is your patio cracking between the joints, uneven underfoot, or starting to show its age?
At Bristol Power Clean, we specialise in patio repointing across Bristol, Bath and nearby areas, helping homeowners restore their paving to a clean, solid and weed-free finish.
Many exterior cleaning companies won’t entertain the idea of repointing tiles as part of their service. However reseating tiles, the grinding out of previous jointing compounds, re-pointing etc… are common requests by customers and a library of previous work can be found on our Instagram account here.

We don’t just tidy up your patio, we bring it back to life using durable materials, the best patio pointing mix for your surface type, and a proven method that extends the life of your paving.
Whether you’re looking for local repointing services near me or just want advice on the best way to repoint a patio, we’re here to help.
Why Repointing Your Patio Matters
Over time, the mortar between paving stones erodes due to weather, foot traffic, and age. When that happens, joints crack, weeds creep in, and slabs may become loose or dangerous.
Timely repointing of paving slabs keeps your patio safe, attractive and functional – preventing costly damage later.
Ignoring it can lead to:
- Wobbly or uneven slabs
- Water pooling between joints
- Moss and weed build-up
- Trip hazards
A properly repointed patio improves the look and adds value to your home while protecting the surface underneath. Many customers don’t realise that an unstable joint can lead to sinking or cracked paving stones.
Our Patio Repointing Process (Step-by-Step)
We take pride in our professional approach. Whether it’s a stone courtyard, patio walkway or paved seating area, the process is the same:
1. Free Inspection & Quote
We assess the condition of your patio, identifying failing joints, movement or gaps.
Ideally we would like to see the patio in person, however you’re welcome to WhatsApp us some photos so we can see remotely and will be able to provide you with a no obligation quote, a good idea on material costs and options available to you.
2. Removal of Old Mortar
As part of any repointing project, we also pressure wash the area and chemically treat any black spot or algae as needed. In areas that suffer from a lot of algae build up, we strongly recommend a ant-bacterial spray that will keep the area clear for up to 6 months!
Using hand tools and grinders, we carefully remove all loose or cracked mortar without damaging the slabs. We fully clean out the joints to prepare them for new pointing material. Pressure washing may be used if needed.
3. Applying Fresh Pointing
We apply your choice of pointing for patio slabs – typically a resin mortar, polymeric sand or a best mix for patio pointing made for long-term durability.
There are many options for the repointing, we typically suggest a resin based product, although are happy with a traditional mortar mix, even with the option of colour dyes too.
The key to this process is not simply brushing a material in, quickly washing over with a trowel and calling it a day. Each joint has the material compacted into it, just as we would do on our own pointing. This process takes time, but its going to stay in the joints long term.
Most resin based products take 5 days to set, we normally suggest a good few days with mortar as well. So no high heels for a few days afterwards!
4. Finishing Touches
Once the joints are set, we clean up the area and check for even finish and solid bonds between every slab.
This thorough method is based on industry best practices and years of experience, we’re often called out to fix poorly repointed patios done with the wrong patio pointing mix or technique.
And of course, clear up any mess created! This includes washing down any windows, walls, windows frames and even plants that have picked up dust or splashes as part of the process.
Patio Repointing Cost – What to Expect in Bristol
The cost of repointing patio slabs in Bristol varies depending on patio size, mortar condition, joint depth, choice of joint compound and access. As a guide:
- Small patios (10–15m²) – from £120 to £220
- Medium patios (20–30m²) – £270 to £450
- Larger patios (30m²+) – £400+
The average patio repointing cost in Bristol is £10–£20 per m².
It’s hard work as you’re on your knees 90% of the time either pointing or angle grinding out previous material in booms of dust.
We provide free, no-obligation quotes and will suggest the most cost-effective solution based on your needs, without cutting corners.
If you’ve looking specifically for “cost to repoint a patio” or “cost of repointing a patio,” know that we’re transparent with pricing and won’t upsell you anything unnecessary.
What Materials Do We Use?
We use mortar or resin based products on your patio type, preference and budget. For repointing flagstone patios, traditional cement blends may be appropriate. For modern slabs, we often recommend:
- Resin jointing compounds
- Ready mixed mortar for pointing paving slabs
- Polymeric sand for low-maintenance finishes
Choosing the right cement mix for patio pointing is critical, we’ll advise what’s best based on your surface, wear level and drainage.
Each property is unique and we always suggest the best option we think will work with your situation, this typically boils down to a resin based compound such as Sika Jointing compound or ProJoint Fusion, or a traditional cement/mortar mix.
If you’re unsure about the best mortar mix for pointing slabs, we’ll show you side-by-side options during your quote.
So We Can Help You With
We can help you with the following:
- A no obligation quote
- Repointing your patio
- Advice as needed on how best approach repointing your patio
- Which products to use and when.
- Fixing any underlaying issues with slabs that have moved, rock or have failed.
Quotes are obligation free and what we find works best for customers when it comes to repointing patios, is a fixed price quote for the labour and you pay for the cost of the materials.
We’ll obviously give you a very good guide on a total price, the labour to repoint, plus materials, but when it comes to grout/consumables we can give you a solid estimate (eg a box of resin based compound is around £32), but sometimes, we may need another box of resin grout (or not!) and would hate to over charge you.
